File Naming
Raw data MS files do not normally contain information about the origin of samples that can be used for sample tracking. therefore we have adapted file naming conventions such that the file name contains come information.
MALDI Target plates
The preferable way to name targets is the initials of the person who's responsible for the experiment followed by a number. The target name should be unique, but there is no guarantee that it is. Example: FL1. Underscore is not permitted in the target name.
Microtitre plates
For these to be recognised by the Spot Handling workstation they must start with 18115042. Thereafter a number or name and number is ok: 18115042FREDRIK1 or 1811504200002018 for example.
Mass spec filenames
They should contain the date and name of the experimenter and be unique. More specifically:
MALDI-TOF
these files we normally name TargetID_Date_counter. Which will mean FL1_060306_1 for example. Upon conversion to .txt files and @ and the position in the target name will be appended to the name. The abbove file will get the name FL1_060306_1@A1.txt if the sample was at position A1 in the plate.
LC-MS
Since the microtitre plate names are so long we usually name the files experimenter_date_MPpos. For example: FL_060306_A1. This means that there is no information about the microtitre plate ID in the filename.
PIUMS Workspaces
These are named TargetID_anything...wks. For example FL1_search_200ppm.wks. There is never more than one target plate per workspace.
Proteinlynx Global Server projects
These should have the name of the microtitre plate from which the samples came.
